Zias drop N.M. Highlands 2-0
Standefer, Dozier score in victory

Box score

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (8-6-0) got back on the winning track with a 2-0 win over New Mexico Highlands University on Sunday, Oct. 10. The Zias netted a pair of second half goals en route to the victory in their first game at the new ENMU Soccer Field.

Lauren Standefer (Fr., F, Tularosa, NM/Alamogordo HS) and Megan Dozier (So., F, Midland, TX/Midland HS) scored for Eastern, which has won six of its last eight contests.
Standefer put her goal home at the 60:02 mark, when she bent a shot toward the net from the right hand side. The ball bounced short of the line and snuck through goalkeeper Dee McGillivray's legs and into the net to give the Zias a 1-0 lead in the match. It was her third score of the year, all of which have come at home.

Dozier's goal, which came at 86:17, was a highlight-reel score that put the game away for the home squad. Nicole Bregler (Fr., M, Alomogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) caught up with a ball just before it rolled past the end line on the near side. She turned and crossed a ball in front of the goal mouth, and Dozier flew into the box and converted a diving header for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Amanda Vanlandingham (Fr., GK, Hobbs, NM/Hobbs HS) got the win for Eastern to improve her record to 4-3-0 on the season. She made five key saves in playing the second half of action. Stephanie Sanchez (Fr., GK, Belen, NM/Belen HS) played the first half for ENMU, making two saves.

Each team registered 13 shots in the contest, and each put seven of those shots on net. The Zias committed 16 fouls to NMHU's nine and had the only yellow card of the match go against them. Valerie Noriega (Jr., M, El Paso, TX/Cochise CC) was given a caution for an illegal challenge at 82:33.

Eastern is on the road for a pair of conference matches next weekend, as it tries to improve on its 1-2-0 record in the Lone Star Conference. On Friday, Oct. 15, ENMU will take on Midwestern State University at 5 p.m. (MDT), and on Sunday, Oct. 17, the Zias go head-to-head with Angelo State University for a 1 p.m. tilt.
