Greyhounds Lose Second Straight One-Goal Game

TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team limited a powerful offensive team in Northeastern State University to just a single goal, but the Greyhounds couldn’t find an equalizer, as the Redmen claimed a 1-0 victory in a Southwest Soccer Conference game on Sept. 24. NSU improved to 6-2 on the season, including 3-2 in the SSC. Eastern, competing in its first season, fell to 3-5-1, 1-4-0 in the SSC.

The Hounds were defeated by a 1-0 score for the second game in a row. In Eastern’s last contest, Midwestern State scored early in the second half to slip past the Greyhounds on Sunday, Sept. 19, at the ENMU Soccer Field.

In the game at Northeastern State, Sergio Salinas tallied the only goal of the game on a shot from 10 yards out at 31:08. Malvern Ntini received an assist on the play after setting up the goal with a crossing pass.

The Redmen outshot the Greyhounds 20-3 for the game, as ENMU goalie Leif Craddock (So., Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M University) was forced to make six saves. NSU had eight shots in the first half, but Salinas’ goal was the only shot on net.

The Greyhounds had two shots in the first half and just one shot in the second half. Eastern’s only shot on goal was by the team’s leading scorer, Jonathan Holman (Fr., F, Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS), in the first half. NSU earned seven shots on goal.
