ENMU Falls on the Road, 4-0
Bogdanov Scores Hat Trick for No. 4 UIW

SAN ANTONIO — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team (2-3-1 overall, 0-2-0 Southwest Soccer Conference) fell for the third straight game, dropping a road contest to the University of the Incarnate Word 4-0 on Sunday. Lubomir Bogdanov scored three goals and added an assist in the contest for the fourth-ranked Cardinals (5-0-0, 4-0-0 SSC).

Bogdanov notched a pair of goals in the span of one minute midway through the first half. He scored his first goal of the game and sixth of the season off a pass from Nick Pertuit at 24:22 to put UIW on the board. He then tallied his second of the game 59 seconds later on a penalty kick awarded to the Cardinals, putting them ahead 2-0 going into halftime.

Bogdanov, picked as an NSCAA All-American last year, was awarded a second penalty kick at 68:42 on an illegal challenge by sophomore goalkeeper Leif Craddock (Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M University) and converted once again, putting UIW up 3-0. He added an assist on Ohad Ron’s goal at 85:53, giving the Cardinals their second SSC victory of the weekend. For Bogdanov, it was his second consecutive game with three goals and an assist, as he also performed the feat on Friday against West Texas A&M University in a 6-2 victory.

Craddock made five saves in net for the Greyhounds, who were outshot 23-8 in the contest by the top-ranked team in the Midwest Region. ENMU did get five shots on the UIW net, led by freshman midfielder Andrew Perez (San Angelo, TX/Lake View HS) with two, but Cardinal keeper Sean Campbell was able to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.

Craddock and freshman forward Donnell Jackson (Arlington, TX/James Bowie HS) each were given yellow cards in the contest, as ENMU committed 17 fouls to UIW’s 14.

It was the final contest in a six-game road trip to begin the season for ENMU, which will return to Portales this weekend for the first home match in the history of the program. SSC foe St. Edward’s University comes to town on Friday, Sept. 17 for a 4 p.m. MDT contest on the ENMU soccer field.
