Greyhounds continue winning ways
Holman scores pair in 4-1 victory

LAKEWOOD, CO — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team remained undefeated in its short history on Friday afternoon, defeating Colorado Christian University 4-1. Jonathan Holman (So., F, Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) had two goals and an assist in the contest for ENMU (2-0-1) in the victory.

The game was scoreless after the first half, but the Greyhounds got on the board early in the second, with Keith Vargas (So., F, Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) tallying his first goal of the season just 3:23 into the half, putting Eastern up by a 1-0 score.

ENMU went on a tear in the latter stages of the second half, scoring three more goals over a seven-minute span. Donnell Jackson (Fr., F, Arlington, TX/James Bowie HS) got the ball rolling for the Hounds at 33:03 for his first collegiate goal. Holman assisted on Jackson’s tally.

Then Holman scored his two goals within 5:11. His first came at the 34:29 mark, with Francisco Roman (Fr., M, El Paso, TX/Cathedral HS) notching an assist. His second of the afternoon came at 39:38, when Martin Gallegos (So., F, Roswell, NM/College of the Southwest) passed the ball off to Holman, who knocked it home to put ENMU up 4-0. The assists were the first points of the season for both Gallegos and Ramon. CCU scored with under seven minutes to play to break up Eastern’s bid for a shutout.

Leif Craddock (So., GK, Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M) started in net for the Hounds and upped his record to 1-0-1, and Neal Hill (Fr., GK, New Braunfels, TX/Canyon HS) took over approximately midway through the second half.

ENMU plays again on Sunday, when it remains in Colorado for a matchup with Colorado State-Pueblo at 2:30 p.m.
