Zias Extend Winning Streak to Seven
ENMU Defeats St. Mary’s University, 3-1

EDMOND, OK. — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team (8-2) continued its strong play, extending its winning streak to seven matches with a four-set victory (30-21, 30-25, 23-30, 30-27) over St. Mary’s University in the Zias’ final match of the Sleep Inn LSC/Heartland Crossover Tournament. ENMU finishes the tournament with a record of 3-0, defeating Heartland Conference opponents St. Mary’s, St. Edward’s University and the University of the Incarnate Word this weekend.

The Zias continued their strong offensive play, once again getting contributions from a number of individuals. Grace George (So., MB, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuku HS) led ENMU with 15 kills in the match, tying her career high, set earlier this year against Mesa State University on Sept. 4. George made just one attack error and added 10 blocks, one solo, in the contest. As a team, the Zias made 17 blocks in the match.

Anna Bellum (Sr., OH, Albuquerque, NM/Garden City CC) and Lindsay Schiely (Jr., MB, Portland, OR/Clackamas CC) each posted 14 kills for ENMU, which hit .269 for the match. Emilie Rodman (Sr., MB, Gillette, WY/Western Wyoming CC) added nine kills on 19 attempts without making an error (.474 attack percentage).

Margie Goble (Sr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) notched 52 assists for the Zias to go along with five kills and three blocks. Schiely led ENMU with four service aces, the most she has posted in her brief time in an ENMU uniform. Five different Zias made 10 or more digs, with Goble leading the way with 14.

Morgan Spencer and Lindsey Van Horn posted 23 and 19 kills, respectively, for the Cardinals in a losing effort. The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for SMU, which falls to 10-4 on the year.

The Zias will play host to Wayland Baptist College on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. It will be the last contest for ENMU at Greyhound Arena in nearly a month, as the Zias will be on the road until Oct. 14 against conference foe Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
