Zias sweep Saturday matches
Eastern ups overall record to 11-3

ABILENE, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico volleyball team won both of its matches on Saturday, Sept. 25, sweeping Lone Star Conference North opponents Texas Woman's University and Texas A&M University-Commerce at the LSC Crossover tournament.

Against Texas Woman's, the Zias (11-3) won in four games (30-20, 30-19, 27-30, 30-22). Lindsay Schiely (Jr., MB, Portland, OR/Clackamas CC) led Eastern with 16 kills, while Anna Bellum (Sr., OH, Albuquerque, NM/Garden City CC) and Grace George (So., MB, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuku HS) contributed 15 and 12 kills, respectively.

Margie Goble (Sr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) made 47 assists in the match for the victors, and Bellum, Jessica Weeks (Sr., LIB, Brownwell, KS/Garden City CC), and Goble all finished with 10 or more digs in the match. Bellum led the way for ENMU with 21.

Eastern hit .217 for the match, while Texas Woman's hit .055. Melanie Pabalate led TWU (8-9) with 11 kills in a losing effort.

In ENMU's second match of the day, it upended Commerce in straight games (30-27, 30-9, 30-22), dropping the Lions to 2-12 on the season. Bellum made led all Zias with 13 kills, while Schiely and George tallied 12 and 10, respectively. Goble made 31 assists in the match, while Olivia Boan (Jr., DS, Portales, NM/Portales HS) led ENMU with 11 digs.

The Zias hit .263 for the match, while Commerce hit .009 for the afternoon. Colleen Favaro led TAMU with nine kills on the match.

Eastern is in action next against Midwestern State, which delivered a five-set loss to Eastern in the opener of the LSC Crossover tournament, on Monday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
