ENMU Sweeps Midwestern State in Three Sets
Three Zias Finish with Double-Digit Kills

PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team won its first home match of the season Monday, Sept. 6, defeating Midwestern State University 3-0. With the win, the Zias raised their record to 3-2 on the season.

Lindsay Schiely (Jr., MB, Portland, OR/Clackamas CC), Anna Bellum (Sr., OH, Albuquerque, NM/Garden City CC) and Emilie Rodman (Sr., OH, Gillette, WY/Western Wyoming CC) each posted double-digit kills in the match, as ENMU notched a .239 attack percentage for the match.

The Zias started the contest off running and jumped out to a 14-7 lead. ENMU never looked back, taking game one by a score of 30-21.

The two teams went back and forth at the beginning of the second game, fighting to an 11-11 tie. But the Zias jumped ahead with eight of the next 11 points and were able to claw their way to a 30-26 victory.

In the third and final game, Eastern built a 17-7 lead and extended it to 26-15. But Midwestern fought back, scoring 11 of the next 14 points, trimming the lead to 29-26. However, Kate Pence made a kill error on the next play, and ENMU took the match, three games to none.

Shiely recorded 11 kills for the Zias. Bellum and Rodman tacked on 10 kills each. Abbi Meyer registered 16 kills for the Lady Indians.

Margie Goble (Sr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) made 38 assists on the match, and added five kills on nine attempts. Kelley McGinty (Sr., OH, Longview, WA/Whatcom CC) led the Zias with 21 digs. Amber Davis (Jr., MB, Colorado Springs, CO/Dodge City CC) and Schiely led ENMU with four blocks apiece.

The Zias play at home again on Friday, Sept. 10 when they play host to Lubbock Christian University. Game time is 7 p.m. MDT at Greyhound Arena.
