Zias Topped by UIW, 4-0
Four Different Cardinals Score in Victory

SAN ANTONIO — The Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team fell behind early in Sunday’s contest and could never catch up as the University of the Incarnate Word (2-3-0) came away with a 4-0 victory. The Cardinals got goals from four different scorers en route to handing ENMU (2-4-0) its third consecutive loss of the season.

Amber Cole put Incarnate Word on the board at the 1:04 mark with a blast from 30 feet out that got by freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez (Belen, NM/Belen HS). Jamie Gunthrop then scored at 24:44 for the Cardinals to give the home squad a 2-0 lead in the first half. Lindsey Gramley picked up an assist on the goal.

In the second half, Gramley scored her second of the year at 66:05, and Farrah Arian-Nejad put the game out of reach at 70:32, with Cole assisting on the tally.

Sanchez made six saves in the loss, and was relieved by Amy Holtman (Fr., GK, Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian HS) at the 71:53 mark. Holtman made a pair of saves in her limited duty.

The Zias still have two more games on their grueling road trip before they return home on Friday, Sept. 24. ENMU heads to Hobbs this Friday for a 1 p.m. contest with the College of the Southwest.
