Zias Go 1-1 in Opening Matches
Win in five sets over CSU-Pueblo

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team split its first two contests of the season, defeating Colorado State-Pueblo 3-2, but falling to Colorado School of Mines 3-0.

The Zias fell behind two games to none in their contest with CSU-Pueblo, but were able to stave off elimination and come from behind in a five-set victory. ENMU won the third set 33-31 and the fourth set 30-28 to force a fifth and deciding game. The Zias finished off the contest with a 15-12 victory in game five to win the match.

Junior transfer Lindsay Schiely (Jr., MB, Port Angeles, WA/Clackamas CC) led the Zias with 11 kills in the match, with Emilie Rodman (Sr., MB, Gillette, WY/Western Wyoming CC) chipping in 10 of her own. Margie Goble (Sr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) tallied 39 assists to go along with eight kills and two service aces, while Grace George (So., MB, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuka HS) had seven total blocks for ENMU.

Earlier in the day, the Zias fell 3-0 to Colo.-Mines in ENMU’s first match of the 2004 season. Schiely led ENMU with 13 kills in the match and a .370 kill percentage, with solid support from senior Anna Bellum(Sr., OH, Albuquerque, NM/Garden City CC), who notched 11 kills and a .316 kill percentage. George tallied six blocks, two solo, in the loss for ENMU.

The Zias return to the court Saturday in the final day of the Mesa State Tournament. They will face off against Mesa State University at 11 a.m. and the University of West Florida at 4 p.m. ENMU has its home opener Monday night at 7 p.m., when Midwestern State University comes to Greyhound Arena to face off with the Zias.
