ENMU Closes Season with Pair of Losses to 5th-Ranked Abilene Christian, 11-3 and 12-4
Gee Goes 3 for 6 in Double-Header; Wallace is 3 for 3 in Second Game

ABILENE, TEXAS — The Greyhounds trailed 5th-ranked Abilene Christian University by just a single run, 1-0, after five and a half innings in the first game of a Lone Star Conference double-header on Saturday, Apr. 30 at Crutcher Scott Field. ACU scored six times in the bottom of the sixth inning, however, on its way to an 11-3 win, then downed ENMU, 12-4, in the second game to sweep the double header. Abilene Christian upped its overall record to 41-14, including 16-4 in the LSC South. Eastern concluded the season at 26-27 overall, 10-10 in the LSC South.

ACU won the South Division title, while Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Angelo State University tied for second place at 11-9 after splitting a double-header on Saturday. ENMU dropped into fourth place, one game behind TAMUK and ASU. Tarleton State University held fifth place at 6-10, and West Texas A&M University was sixth at 2-14. TSU and WTAMU will end the regular season with four games in Stephenville, Texas, next weekend.

Justin Gee (Jr., RF, Clovis, NM/Clovis HS) went 2 for 4 with a double in the first game for ENMU. Mark Wallace (Sr., 1B, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) also hit a double for the Greyhounds, while Brian Green (Jr., C, Fountain Hills, AZ/Central Arizona College) blasted a triple.

ACU's big sixth inning featured five hits, two walks and a hit batsman. Ryan Barker, who singled in the sixth on his way to an 8 for 8 day, hit three other singles in the opener and pounded out four doubles in Game #2. Abilene Christian opened the second game with six consecutive hits, including three doubles and a home run, for an early 5-0 lead.

Wallace went 3 for 3 in the second game for the Greyhounds, as he earned a single and two triples. Brett Scherer (Sr., 3B/P, Ingram, TX/Midland College) went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. ACU outhit Eastern 17-8 during Game #2, and earned a 14-8 edge in hits in the opener.

Eastern played solid defense throughout the day, recording five double plays — three in
the first game and two in the second game — and committing no errors. Eastern ended the year with 16 errorless games, including nine of the last 14 games of the season. The Greyhounds made no more than one error in 13 of the final 14 games and 17 of the last 20.

Trevor Davis (Sr., RHP, Evergeen, CO/Evergreen HS) experienced a difficult four innings at the start of the second game. He gave up all 17 hits and 12 runs, while earning two strikeouts and two walks. Even with the rough day, Davis (11-5) finished the season with a new ENMU record for victories in one season (11), as well as a school record for career victories (20).

Davis tied the single season record for innings pitched at ENMU (94.0). He finished second on the all-time list for career strikeouts with 198, falling just short of the school record of 204, set by Gabe DeHoyos from 2000 through 2002.

Davis also tied his own school record with 24 appearances. He previously appeared in 24 games in 2003 and saw action in 23 games in 2004. He finished his career with a school record 89 appearances on the mound.

Wallace threw two scoreless and hitless innings at the end of Game #2. He concluded the season with a 2.38 earned run average and seven strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings of relief.

On offense, Wallace established career records for games played (194), games started (189), runs (118), hits (207) and runs batted in (128). On defense, he set an ENMU career record with 933 putouts. His 390 putouts this season fell just two short of the single season record of 392, set by Mike Dunstan in 1997.

Bryan Moore (Sr., 2B, Wolfforth, TX/Howard College) recorded a single in both games on Saturday, as he hit safely in 24 of Eastern's final 25 games, including a 22-game hitting streak, which ended on Friday, in the second game of the four-game series. Moore led the Greyhounds with a .413 batting average this season.
