Greyhounds Set School Record with 29 Hits, as ENMU Pounds Oklahoma Panhandle State, 25-10
Davis Breaks Record with Ninth Win of Season

Box Score - ENMU 25, OPSU 10

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University set a school record with 29 hits, and senior pitcher Trevor Davis (RHP, Evergreen, CO/Evergreen HS) broke another record with his ninth win of the season, as the Greyhounds pounded Oklahoma Panhandle State University, 25-10, at Greyhound Field on Tuesday, Apr. 19. With the win, the Hounds returned to the .500 mark at 22-22, while OPSU fell to 7-34 on the season.

Davis was the first of five pitchers in a pre-arranged rotation for the Hounds. He received the win as the pitcher of record after throwing the first two innings, as ENMU built a 10-0 lead. The pre-arranged rotation is the only time a starter may get the win with less than five innings pitched in a nine-inning game.

Davis improved to 9-4 on the season. The previous record of eight wins was set by Geoff Erwin in 1995 and 1996, and by Greg Stimack in 1999. Davis has 18 career wins and needs one more to tied the school record, set by Erwin from 1994-96.

Eastern’s 29 hits broke the record of 27 set against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Mar. 7, 1998 and against New Mexico Highlands University on Mar. 23, 1999. Brett Scherer (Sr., 3B/P, Ingram, TX/Midland College) was 5 for 7 at the plate, as he became the sixth player in ENMU history to earn five hits in one game. He joined current teammate Josh Kuchta (Sr., SS, Clovis, NM/Clovis HS) on the list. Kuchta earned five hits against West Texas A&M University on Apr. 2, 2004.

The Greyhounds will return to action with a Lone Star Conference series against Tarleton State University on Friday, Apr. 22 and Saturday, Apr. 23. First pitch at Greyhound Field is set for 3 p.m. MDT on Friday, followed by a 12 p.m. MDT start on Saturday, as the teams will play one 9-inning game and one 7-inning game each day. ENMU is tied for third place in the LSC South at 6-6, while Tarleton State (21-27 overall) is in fifth place at 5-7.
