New Mexico Highlands Defeats Greyhounds, 10-1
Moore Extends ENMU Record Hitting Streak to 21 Games

LAS VEGAS, N.M. — New Mexico Highlands University scored six times in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull away from Eastern New Mexico University for a 10-1 non-conference victory, Tuesday, Apr. 26 at Brandt Field on the NMHU campus. Highlands improved to 29-14, while ENMU fell to 25-24.

Bryan Moore (Sr., 2B, Wolfforth, TX/Howard College) extended his ENMU record hitting streak to 21 games with a single in the top of the eighth inning. Tyler Brown (Jr., C, Aurora, CO/Arapahoe CC) went 2 for 3, but was the only Greyhound with more than one hit. Rich Janeway led the Cowboys with 5 hit in 5 at bats, including a double and his 13th home run of the season.

NMHU scored twice in the first inning and once in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. The Hounds plated their only run in the fifth inning, when Mark Wallace (Sr., 1B, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) led off with a double, moved to third on a single by Brown and scored on a single by Gerald Juarez (Jr., DH/C, Carlsbad, NM/N.M. Military Institute). Highlands tacked on six runs on six hits and one error in the eighth.

Lucas Spagnuolo (3-0) was the winning pitcher. He threw all nine innings for the Cowboys. Micah Bernhardt (Jr., RHP/LF, Gypsum, CO/Arapahoe CC), who started for ENMU, allowed three runs in four innings and fell to 0-2 with the loss.

The Greyhounds will play a four-game Lone Star Conference South Division series at Abilene Christian University this weekend. Eastern and ACU will open the series with a double-header on Friday, Apr. 29 at 3 p.m. (MDT). The series will conclude with the final two games of the series on Saturday, Apr. 30, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. (MDT).
