Davis Improves to 8-4, Ties ENMU Single Season Victory Record, as Hounds Open Double-Header with 14-3 Win Box Score - Game 3 - ENMU 14, WTAMU 3 CANYON, TEXAS — Senior pitcher Trevor Davis (RHP, Evergreen, CO/Evergreen HS) struck out six batters and allowed just three runs in seven innings, as Eastern New Mexico University defeated West Texas A&M University, 14-3, in the first game of a Lone Star Conference double-header, Saturday, Apr. 16 in Canyon, Texas. Davis improved to 8-4 on the season and tied Eastern's single season record for victories. The record also is held by Geoff Erwin (1995 and 1995) and Greg Stimack (1999). In the second game, WTAMU defeated ENMU, 3-2, as James Sweatman outlasted Brett Scherer (Sr., RHP/3B, Ingram, TX/Midland College) in a pitcher's duel. Davis received solid help from Eastern's 19 hits on offense, including solo home runs by Ryan French (Jr., CF, Carlsbad, NM/Trinidad State Junior College) and Bryan Moore (Sr., 2B, Wolfforth, TX/Howard College), plus a three-run homer by Mark Wallace (Sr., 1B, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS). Kellen Smith (Fr., RHP, Amarillo, TX) allowed three hits and no runs over the final two innings, as he threw for the Greyhounds just a few miles from Randall High School, where he graduated last year. Tyler Glynn hit a bloop single just over Wallace's glove at first base to score Matt Rehkopf from third with the go-ahead run for WTAMU in the sixth inning of Game #2. Moore doubled for ENMU with one out in the seventh, but was stranded at third after Josh Kuchta (Sr., SS, Clovis, NM/Clovis HS) grounded out and Scherer was thrown out at first after his third strike was dropped. ENMU is 21-22 overall and 6-6 in the LSC South. WTAMU is 13-33, 2-10 in the LSC South.
