Davis Records Eight Strikeouts and Throws all Nine Innings, as ENMU Defeats TAMU-Kingsville, 4-3

PORTALES, N.M. — Senior pitcher Trevor Davis (RHP, Evergreen, CO/Evergreen HS) provided a nine-inning, complete-game performance with eight strikeouts, and Josh Kuchta (Sr., SS, Clovis, NM/Clovis HS) drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the seventh inning, lifting Eastern New Mexico University to a 4-3 victory over Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the first game of a Lone Star Conference double-header on Friday, Apr. 1. TAMUK won the second game 6-4, as Raul Trevino (4-1) threw all seven innings and achieved 13 strikeouts.

At the end of the day, Kingsville was 22-11 overall and 1-1 in the LSC South, while ENMU was 14-17 overall, 1-1 in the division. The teams will complete the series with another double-header (9-inning game followed by a 7-inning game) on Saturday, Apr. 2.

Davis improved to 7-3 with the win in the opener. He has thrown a complete game six times in eight starts this season, while earning 48 strikeouts.

ENMU trailed 3-1 in the opener before Bryan Moore (Sr., 2B, Wolfforth, TX/Howard College) tripled to right field to start the bottom of the sixth. He scored when the return throw was misplayed by the third baseman.

In the seventh, Mark Wallace (Sr., 1B/P, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) doubled and scored on a single by Micah Bernhardt (Jr., LF, Gypsum, CO/Arapahoe CC). Berhnardt crossed the plate two batters later on Kuchta's single to right.
