PORTALES, N.M. — Donald Young, a 6’5” 210-pound forward from Southern Union State Community College in Wadley, Ala., has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the
Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team. Young, who has played two seasons at Southern Union, will be a junior during the 2005-06 season.

Young, from Mobile, Ala., averaged 8.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for Southern Union during the 2004-05 season. He helped the team conclude the year with the a 13-9 overall record and a second place finish in the Alabama Community College Conference.

“Donald is a very high-energy player, who competes at all times in practice and during games,” ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan said. “He runs well, is athletic, and will be very effective in our passing game offense.

“He is a self starter and you can’t have too many of those,” Scanlan added. “We are very excited about adding Donald to our team for next year.”

Eastern New Mexico University battled through numerous injuries during 2004-05 and ended the year with a 9-18 record. The Hounds hope to stay healthy next year and return to the form that won them back-to-back Lone Star Conference South Division titles in 2002-03 and 2003-04 with a combined record of 40-17 (.702) those two years. The Greyhounds qualified for the LSC Tournament both years and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2003-04.
