Brent Almand Signs National Letter-of-Intent with ENMU Men's Cross Country Team

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University head cross country coach Joel McMullen has announced the signing of The Woodlands (TX) High School senior Brent Almand to a National Letter-of-Intent to run for the Greyhounds next season. Almand, who is from The Woodlands, Texas, will be a freshman during the 2005-06 academic year. His parents are Tom and Kerin Conley of The Woodlands, and Mark Almand of Locust Grove, Ga..

McMullen and his assistant coach, Matthew Gordillo, have recruited to rebuild and add depth to both the men’s and women’s cross country teams for the upcoming season. Seeking out the best student-athletes possible, most of the recruiting efforts have been in New Mexico. However, Almand’s outstanding athletic and academic credentials were too good not to pursue. The Hounds cross country squad finished fifth in the Lone Star Conference and 13th in the NCAA South Central Regional in 2004.

“For this program to be able to land someone with the credentials of Brent is a huge, huge accomplishment,” McMullen commented. “He wanted to be a part of something special and help build this program up to where it was 30 years ago. However, more importantly, he wanted to be a part of a program that was a ‘family.’

“There is no doubt that Brent is going to help propel the Greyhounds to some wonderful things the next four years. Brent was heavily recruited by national title contenders Adams State and Abilene Christian, and to have him choose ENMU means more than I can ever put into words,” McMullen added.
