PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University head cross country coach Joel McMullen has announced the signing of Jacob Wiklund, from Cloudcroft High School, to a National Letter-of-Intent to run for the Greyhounds next season. Wiklund, from Cloudcroft, N.M., will be a freshman during the 2005-06 academic year. He is the son of Don Wiklund. McMullen and his assistant coach, Matthew Gordillo, have recruited to rebuild and add depth to both the men’s and women’s cross country teams for the upcoming season, focusing primarily on the tremendous amount of talented runners throughout New Mexico. The ENMU men’s cross country squad finished fifth in the Lone Star Conference and 13th in the NCAA South Central Regional in 2004. “We are extremely excited that Jacob will be a Greyhound this fall,” McMullen said. “Jacob is a very solid performer in the classroom and a very competitive runner. He has not been running cross country for long, but the times he ran as a senior, in his first year of running in the sport, show great promise for the future. “Jacob’s best days in this sport are right around the corner,” McMullen added. He is one of those kids who, when you meet him, you just know he will give you everything he has, which is what his high school coach, Wendell Lane, told me before I ever met Jacob. We are blessed to have Jacob here at Eastern.” Jacob Wiklund |
