PORTALES, N.M. — Carlos Guillen, a 5’8”, 145-pound center midfielder from Odessa High School in Odessa, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team. Guillen will be a freshman at ENMU during the 2005 season.

Guillen was selected First Team All District and was named Most Valuable Player on offense in the Ector County Independent School District as a junior in 2004. He also was the second leading scorer in the ECISD in 2004. In 2003, he was named Second Team All-District.

During the Odessa Winter High School Soccer Tournament, Guillen was selected to the All-Tournament team in 2004 and 2005. He was named First Team All-District during the winter season, and attained Man of the Match honors at the Seguin (Texas) Tournament.

“Carlos is a midfielder who will bring a tremendous work ethic and vision to our team,” ENMU Head Coach Carlos Elizondo said. “He has the potential to become an integral part of the Greyhounds.”

The Odessa High School Bronchos, led by Head Coach Noe Cerezo, will compete in the Regional Quarterfinals in Dallas today (Apr. 8), as they attempt to advance in postseason play for the 2005 season. Guillen also competes for the Dallas Texans, one of the premier soccer clubs in Texas.

Eastern New Mexico University fielded its first intercollegiate men’s soccer team this past fall. The Greyhounds played in the highly-competitive Southwest Soccer Conference, which included eight talented squads, with four challenging at the national level. ENMU finished its first season with a 6-12-2 overall record, including 3-10-1 in the SSC. The Hounds lost six conference games by one goal.
