Abilene Christian Outscores Zias 14-8 and 11-7 to Open LSC South Series
Nocas and Helland Hit Their First Home Runs of the Season for ENMU

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University Zias could not handle the Abilene Christian University Wildcats in a Lone Star Conference South Division slugfest double-header, losing 14-8 and 11-7 on Friday, Apr. 1. The Zias fell to 14-21 overall and to 1-9 in the LSC South. The Wildcats improved to 23-14, including 7-3 in the LSC South.

Junior Jessica Nocas (SS, Riverside, CA/Midland College) hit her first home run of the season, accounting for three Zia runs in the fifth inning of the first game. Nocas accumulated six RBIs, scored three runs and was a perfect 3 for 3 in the opener. In the second game, Christina Helland (Fr., LF, Albuquerque, NM/Rio Rancho HS) hit her first career home run, a solo shot that put the Zias up 4-3 in the second inning.

The Wildcats were led by the LSC home run leader, senior first baseman Katie Bryan, who belted four homers, two in each game. Bryan earned a total of 12 RBIs, hitting a grand-slam and a two-run homer in each game. She went 6 for 8 in the double-header and improved her batting average to .418 on the season.
