Eastern's Softball Double-Header on Tuesday (Apr. 5) is Canceled by Midwestern State
Zias are Still Set to Play OPSU on Wednesday
PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University’s softball double-header against Midwestern State University, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 5, in Clovis, N.M., has been canceled at the request of MSU. No plans have been made to reschedule the twinbill. MSU was concerned about travel costs and missed class time, so the Lady Indians pulled out of the non-conference double-header. ENMU and MSU both compete in the Lone Star Conference, but Midwestern is in the North Division and Eastern is in the South Division.

The double-header would have provided the Zias with their first-ever home games not played in Portales. When Eastern started its softball program in 1997, the Zias played at the Industrial Park fields in Portales. In 1999, Zia Softball Field was completed on the ENMU campus, and the Zias have played their ever since.

ENMU’s double-header at Zia Softball Field on Wednesday, Apr. 6, against the Lady Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University is still set to start at 12 p.m. MDT. Panhandle State defeated Eastern, 9-2, in the Angelo State Classic on Feb. 5, but the Zias split a double-header at OPSU on Mar. 9. The Lady Aggies won the first game 7-5 and Eastern won the second game, 9-6 in eight innings.

The Zias are currently 14-22 overall, 2-10 in the LSC South and 8-6 at home. The Zias have already won more games than a year ago, when Eastern finished 11-36 overall and 1-19 in the LSC South.
