TAMU-Kingsville Sweeps Zias, 12-2 and 12-8, to End LSC Season
Whipkey Hits Second Homer of Series in Second Game

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University Zias closed out their 2005 home schedule by losing both games of a double-header to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 12-2 and 12-8, on Saturday, Apr. 16 at Zia Softball Field. The Lone Star Conference South Division losses dropped the Zias to 18-29 overall and to 3-17 in the final LSC South standings. The Javelinas improved to 30-26 overall, 11-9 in the LSC South.

In the first game, Eastern lost on the run-rule in the fifth inning. Tori Picazo (So, DP, McKinney, TX/Western Texas College) and Tracy Jordan (Jr., 2B, Rosamond, CA/Desert HS) accounted for the two Zia runs with RBIs in the third and fourth innings, respectively.

Elizabeth Whipkey (Fr., DP, Orange, CA/Villa Park HS) went 2-4 for ENMU in the second game, including a three-run homer in the sixth inning. It was her second home run of the season, with both homers occurring this weekend in the TAMUK series. Adriana Reyes (Jr., 3B, El Paso, TX/ El Paso Community College) also homered for the Zias, her first of the season, as she blasted a solo shot in the third inning.

The Zias will close out the season at New Mexico Highlands University on Tuesday, Apr. 19. Action in the double-header is set to begin at 12 p.m. MDT.
