Megan Ratliff from Cochise College Signs National Letter-of-Intent with ENMU Women's Basketball Team

PORTALES, N.M. — Megan Ratliff, a 5’9” forward from Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz., has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play women’s basketball at Eastern New Mexico University. Ratliff will be a junior at ENMU during the 2005-06 season.

Ratliff scored 9.8 points per game at Cochise in 2004-05. She earned 3.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game, as Cochise achieved a 19-10 record on its way to the Region I finals in the National Junior College Athletic Assoication (NJCAA). She was a team captain, and earned assists on two last-second shots for wins by Cochise during the season.

She graduated from Farmington High School in Farmington, N.M., then attended Grayson County Community College in Texas for one season. At Farmington, she played on a State Championship team and earned All-State and All-District honors.

“Megan has a tremendous basketball I.Q,” ENMU Co-Head Coach Dustin Klafka said. “Zia basketball is very fortunate to find a player with the drive and desire to play the game of basketball the way Megan does. She has a blue-collar attitude and provides a great effort on defense.”

Eastern New Mexico University won its last four games of 2004-05 to finish the year at 13-14 overall. The Zias concluded the season tied with Texas A&M University-Commerce for fourth place in the LSC South at 7-7, but missed out on the LSC Tournament on a tie-breaker. ENMU did well despite playing without the team’s top scorer, senior guard Laci Lee (Portales, NM/Portales HS), for the final 18 games of the season due to a leg injury.

In 2003-04, Eastern earned a 16-12 overall record and tied for second place in the LSC South at 10-4. ENMU’s successful season also included a berth in the LSC Tournament.

“We really like hard-working players, and Megan definitely fits that description” Co-Head Coach Dan Buzard said. “As a junior college transfer she already has two years of collegiate experience that will help her adjust to the level of play in the LSC.”
