Lindsey Wood from Muleshoe High School Signs National Letter-of-Intent with ENMU Women's Basketball Team

PORTALES, N.M. — Lindsey Wood, a 5’7” point guard from Muleshoe High School in Muleshoe, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play women’s basketball at Eastern New Mexico University. Wood will be a freshman at ENMU during the 2005-06 season.

Wood was named All-State by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) and the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) for her efforts at Muleshoe during the 2004-05 season. She helped MHS advance to Class 3A Regional competition before losing to Canyon High School.

In addition to her All-State honors, Wood was chosen MVP of District 2-3A and was named to the All-Region Team and the Regional All-Tournament Team. She was a First Team All-South Plains selection by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and was named to the Class 3A Golden Spread Super Team the Amarillo Globe-News. She has been selected for the TABC All-Star Game, which will be played on May 6, 2005.

“She’s a definite winner, leading her team to a Regional match-up against Canyon High School, which eventually won the State championship,” ENMU Co-Head Coach Dustin Klafka said. “She has good speed and quickness. Her biggest asset is her floor presence from the point guard spot.”

Eastern New Mexico University won its last four games of 2004-05 to finish the year at 13-14 overall. The Zias concluded the season tied with Texas A&M University Commerce for fourth place in the LSC South at 7-7, but missed out on the LSC Tournament on a tie-breaker. ENMU did well despite playing without the team’s top scorer, senior guard Laci Lee (Portales, NM/Portales HS), for the final 18 games of the season due to a leg injury.

In 2003-04, Eastern earned a 16-12 overall record and tied for second place in the LSC South at 10-4. ENMU’s successful season also included a berth in the LSC Tournament.

“We are excited about signing such a talented local player as Lindsey Wood,” Co-Head Coach Dan Buzard said. “She will give us another player who knows how to win and has the ability to create problems for our opponents. She’s a great addition to our team.”
