Colorado Mines Rallies from Halftime Deficit to Defeat Eastern New Mexico University, 3-1, in Season-Opener
Robinson Scores at 35:46 for ENMU

GOLDEN, COLO. — The Colorado School of Mines rallied from a 1-0 deficit by scoring three goals in the second half, as the Orediggers defeated Eastern New Mexico University, 3-1, in the season-opener for both teams on Friday, Aug. 26. Senior forward Rafael Ribeiro scored twice for CSM, after leading the Orediggers with eight goals and three assists (19 points) in 2004.

Eastern’s Albert Robinson (So., F, Lawton, OK/MacArthur HS) opened the scoring 35:46 into the first half when he pounced on the rebound following a diving save by CSM goalkeeper Kevin Galloway. Jonathan Holman (So., F, Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) provided the initial shot on the play, after receiving a pass from Rob Humphrey (So., F/M, Moriarty, NM/ Fort Lewis College). Holman and Humphrey were credited with assists on the goal.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime, despite CSM building an 11-3 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. ENMU goalkeeper Leif Craddock (So., GK, Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M University) recorded five saves in the first half. He added one save in the second half. Galloway registered two first-half saves before making one save in the second half.

Ribeiro tied the game just 3:04 into the second half on an assist from Marty Politte. The
Orediggers moved in front at 53:40, when Ribeiro was brought down in the penalty area and Craig Thompson converted the ensuing penalty kick. Ribeiro completed the scoring at 73:17, after receiving a cross from Nao Lee.

CSM, which went 10-4-5 in 2004, ended the night with a 19-4 lead in shots and a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. A total of 44 fouls were called, with 28 whistled against ENMU. Six yellow cards were issued, as three players from each team were noted for significant infractions.

The Greyhounds, who went 6-12-2 during their inaugural season last fall, will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 28, against Metropolitan State College of Denver. Game time in Denver, Colo., is set for 12 p.m. MST.
