ENMU Women's Soccer Team Opens 2005 Season with Hard-Fought 3-1 Loss at Fort Lewis DURANGO, COLO. — The Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team began its 2005 campaign with a 3-1 defeat at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., on Friday, Aug. 28. The game also was the home-opener for the Skyhawks. Jennifer Goodrum (Sr., M, Ogden, UT/Weber State University) came off the bench to record her first goal for the Zias in the second half. The goal came at the 68:02 mark off a corner kick by Karly Parkans (Sr., F, Peoria, AZ/Paradise Valley CC) that ricocheted off Fort Lewis defender Katrina Kranzler. Parkans was credited with an assist on the play. ENMU trailed 3-0 prior to the goal. The Skyhawks took a 1-0 lead at 11:39, when Kate Mahler scored the first of her two goals during the game. Mahler was assisted by Kelly Smith. Fort Lewis led 1-0 going into the second half, then Mahler connected again on a pass from Katie Loy at 53:48. Fort Lewis’ final goal was on a shot by Smith at 62:56, as Loy recorded her second assist of the game. Zia goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez (So., GK, Belen, NM/Belen HS) faced 18 shots on goal and recorded 15 saves. ENMUs offensive attack was limited to five shots on goal, with five players recording one shot apiece. Megan Dozier (Jr., F, Midland, TX/Midland HS) and Goodrum each took three shots to lead the Zias on offense. Next up for ENMU will be a match against Mesa State College at Fort Lewis on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 12 p.m. MST. The Zias will play their home-opener on Friday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. MST against Colorado Christian University. The four-match homestand will continue on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 12 p.m. MST against Colorado State University-Pueblo.
