Mikal Monette is Selected LSC South Player of the Week
Averages 16.5 Points and 8.5 Rebounds per Game

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University junior forward Mikal Monette
(6'6", 215 lbs., Albuquerque, NM/University of New Mexico) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in Eastern’s two games at the High Desert Classic, Dec. 16-17 in Las Vegas, Nev. Monette averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while connecting on 68.2% of his field goal attempts, as Eastern battled two of the strongest teams in the South Central Region of NCAA Division II.

The Greyhounds opened the High Desert Classic against Central Missouri State University, ranked 14th in the nation, on Dec. 16. ENMU was within three points of CMSU with just 1:55 remaining, before the Mules recorded a 75-67 win. Eastern played Drury University (Mo.) on Dec. 17. The Panthers defeated the Hounds, 81-63, after the game was tied, 58-58, with 8:46 left.

Monette scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Central Missouri. He recorded a career-high 23 points to go with nine rebounds against Drury. During the week, he hit 15 of 22 field goals, while earning five assists (2.5 avg.), three steals (1.5 avg.) and one block (0.5 avg.). He was 5 of 8 from the field against CMSU and sank 10 of 14 field goals versus Drury.

For the season, Monette is averaging 8.6 points and 5.7 boards per game. He has achieved double-digit scoring in Eastern’s last three games. He ranks second on the team in overall scoring.

ENMU is 4-6 on the season. The six losses have been to opponents with a combined record of 39-22 (.639), including five teams with winning records totaling 37-14 (.725). Eastern plays again on Friday, Dec. 30, at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, with game time scheduled for 4 p.m. MST. The Hounds defeated OPSU, 69-53, on Dec. 10 at Greyhound Arena.
