ENMU Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams Honored by NSCAA for Academic Success

PORTALES, N.M.
— The Eastern New Mexico University men’s and women’s soccer teams have received Team Academic Awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the 2004-05 academic year. ENMU and other colleges and universities were honored for earning team grade point averages of 3.0 or higher during the academic year.

A total of 314 teams qualified for the Team Academic Awards in 2004-05. ENMU was one of only 48 colleges to receive the award in both men’s and women’s soccer. The Eastern women’s team was one of 249 women’s programs honored for success in the classroom, while the ENMU men’s team was one of just 65 men’s programs achieving similar honors.

The Eastern New Mexico University soccer teams finished 2004-05 with identical 3.17 team grade point averages. Eastern’s women’s team was led by Head Coach Travis McCorkle. The Greyhounds were guided by Head Coach Carlos Elizondo. The Zias played their first season of intercollegiate competition in 2003, while the men’s soccer team played its inaugural season in 2004.

ENMU was joined by four other Lone Star Conference women’s teams on the list of Team Academic Award recipients. Angelo State University, the University of Central Oklahoma, East Central University and Texas Woman’s University also were honored.

In the men’s division, the only Southwest Soccer Conference team to join ENMU on the list of Team Academic Award winners was St. Edward’s University. St. Edward’s also received the award for its women’s team, which competes in the Heartland Conference. Eastern and St. Edward’s were the only LSC or SSC members with both of their teams on the list of top academic performances.
