PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University junior pitcher Brett Scherer (RHP/3B, Ingram, TX/Midland College) and senior pitcher Trevor Davis (RHP, Evergreen, CO/Evergreen HS) combined to limit the University of Central Oklahoma to just three hits in the second game of a Lone Star Conference crossover double-header on Saturday, Feb. 19, as the Greyhounds gained a split with a 5-2 win. Central Oklahoma won the first game, 9-8. ENMU concluded the first day of the four-game series with a 4-2 overall record. UCO moved to 2-1 on the season.

Scherer played catcher most of last season when Brian Green (Jr., C, Fountain Hills, AZ/Central Arizona College) was out with a leg injury. This year, Scherer has returned to third base and has also joined the ENMU pitching staff. In the second game on Saturday, he threw 5 1/3 innings, while allowing only two runs (one earned) and two hits. He struck out four batters. In the first game, he was Eastern's designated hitter, and went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Ryan French (Jr., CF, Carlsbad, NM/Trinidad JC) was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run score in the first game for Eastern. Justin Gee (Jr., RF, Clovis, NM/Clovis HS) was 3 for 3 and scored once for the Greyhounds in the nightcap.
