PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University softball team opened its home schedule with two wins over in-state rival New Mexico Highlands University on Friday, Feb. 18, as the Zias defeated the Cowgirls, 3-2 and 5-4 at Zia Softball Field. ENMU increased its overall winning streak to four games, while improving to 5-4 on the season. Highlands dropped to 1-5.

Tina Whitt (Jr., C, Riverside, CA/Midland College) hit a two-run home run in the first game to break a scoreless tie in the third inning. Tori Picazo (So., RF, McKinney, TX/Western Texas College) scored on the play. The winning run was recorded by Jessica Nocas (Jr., SS, Riverside, CA/Midland College) in the sixth. She started the inning with a double and later scored on a single by (Jr., 2B, Rosamond, CA/Dester HS). Jordan also doubled to drive in pinch-runner Danielle Flores (So., LF, Loving, NM/Loving HS) with the deciding run in the seventh inning of the second game.
