ENMU Splits Double-Header with WNMU
Fifth-Inning Outburst Make the Difference in Each Game

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University softball team lost the first game of a double-header against Western New Mexico University, 18-7, then bounced back to win the second game, 16-8 on Sun., Feb. 20 at Zia Softball Field. ENMU is now 6-7 in 2005, while WNMU improved to 7-5 in the season after winning three of four games in the non-conference weekend series.

Each team recorded its victory on Sunday after scoring 11 runs in the fifth inning. The Lady Mustangs used their big inning to turn a 7-6 lead into an 18-6 rout in the opener. ENMU added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning before the game was ended by the run rule. In the second game, Eastern’s big inning turned an 8-5 deficit into a 16-8 run rule victory.
