Laci Lee Named Second Team
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball player Laci Lee (Sr., G, 5’10”, Portales, NM/Portales HS) has been named to the Second Team of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI College Division Team, as chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Lee, who played for the Zias in the first nine games this season before she was sidelined with an ankle injury, was one of five LSC South players named to the Academic All-District Team. First, second and third teams were selected.

Lee is majoring in Biology (Pre-Medicine) at ENMU. She began the current semester with a 3.62 cumulative GPA. She was named to the LSC South All-Academic Team in 2003-04. She earned a spot on the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2002-03 and 2003-04. On the court, she was chosen Second Team All-LSC South last season.

Lee scored 879 points at ENMU, and ranks 13th on the Zias’ all-time scoring list. Her career statistics also include 458 rebounds, 280 assists, 126 steals and 75.6% on free throws (211 of 279). This season she was averaging 10.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while hitting 82.4% of her free throws (28 of 34).

Other LSC South Division players named to the All-District Team were Natalja Tsurbakova of Angelo State on the First Team, along with Sharon Ballenger of Angelo State on the Second Team, Kelley Humphries of Texas Woman’s on the Third Team and Suni Jo Petty of West Texas A&M on the Third Team. Overall, 15 players were named Academic All-District VI.

CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player was at her current college or university for at least one academic year.

The College Division includes players in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA. The Zias compete in NCAA Division II and in the Lone Star Conference South Division.
