Box Score

PORTALES, N.M. — Tia Doss (Jr., Forward, Albuquerque, NM/Highland HS) stole the ball near midcourt, then scored on a layup and a foul shot with 1:04 left, breaking a 54-54 tie and sending Eastern New Mexico University to a 57-54 win over Texas Woman's University, in a Lone Star Conference game, Feb. 24 at Greyhound Arena. ENMU, which won for the third game in a row, improved to 12-14 on the season, 6-7 in the LSC South. Texas Woman's slipped to 10-15 overall, including 3-10 in the LSC South.

The layup was the third for Doss after stealing the ball from the Pioneeers. Her first steal and layup gave ENMU a 9-3 lead with 15:22 remaining in the first half. The second extended Eastern's lead to 30-18 with just 12 seconds left in the opening period. ENMU led 30-19 at halftime. Doss finished the game with a team-high 17 points.

ENMU can tie Texas A&M University-Commerce for fourth place in the LSC South if the Zias defeat Texas A&M University-Kingsville and the Lions lose at Angelo State University in games set for Saturday, Feb. 26. The Lions, however, already hold the tie-breaker for the fourth and final LSC Tournament berth from the South Division.

The first tie-breaker is head-to-head results, but Eastern and TAMU-Commerce each won one game in two meetings. The second tie-breaker compares results against other teams in the South Division, starting in first place. Both teams have lost twice to Angelo State University (11-2), but TAMU-Commerce has a win over West Texas A&M University (10-3), while Eastern lost to the Lady Buffs twice. Both teams lost twice to Abilene Christian University (9-4).
