PORTALES, N.M. — Courtney Cross, a 5’6” defender from Piedra Vista High School in Farmington, New Mexico, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team. Cross, who has been selected All-State in soccer the past three years, will be a freshman at ENMU during the 2005 season.

Cross was named All-State and All-District in 2002, 2003, and 2004, and has been a team captain at Piedra Vista the past two years. She has been a letterman five times in high school. Cross also has played for the Rio Vista United club team.

“Courtney Cross is a defender from Farmington who I think has great potential for our team,” ENMU Head Coach Travis McCorkle said. “She’s got good athleticism, great tenacity in her tackling and in her desire to win. Those are things we really look at for our team.”

The Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team completed its second season of intercollegiate competition in the Lone Star Conference this past fall. The Zias finished the 2004 season with a 9-9-2 overall record and went 2-5-2 in the LSC standings (8 points) to fall just one point shy of making the conference tournament.

“We want to get players who want to win and continue our progress from the past two seasons. We are excited that Courtney signed with us,” McCorkle added.
