PORTALES, N.M. — Janelle Beyerl, a 5’3” midfielder/forward from Belen High School in Belen, New Mexico, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team. Beyerl, who was selected the 2004 District Player of the Year, will be a freshman at ENMU during the 2005 season.

To go along with her District Player of the Year honors, Beyerl has been named Second Team All-State twice and has been selected First Team All-District three times. Beyerl has succeeded academically and has been named to the National Honor Society.

Beyerl will be on the same squad again with former high school teammate, Stephanie Sanchez, who received Class 4A Player of the Year honors in 2003 as a goalkeeper. “Janelle has terrific speed and I’m hoping she is going to continue the tradition of success that we have recruited from Belen High School,” ENMU Head Coach Travis McCorkle said.

The Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team completed its second season of intercollegiate competition in the Lone Star Conference this past fall. The Zias finished the 2004 season with a 9-9-2 overall record and went 2-5-2 in the LSC standings (8 points) to fall just one point shy of making the conference tournament.

“I’m looking forward to Janelle continuing her success from high school when she starts playing for the ENMU women’s soccer team,” McCorkle added.
