Senior pitcher Trevor Davis Selected for LSC South All-Academic Team

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University senior right-handed pitcher Trevor Davis (Evergreen, CO/Evergreen HS) has been named to the 2005 Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Team in baseball. ENMU placed two additional players on the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Overall, nine players were selected for the All-Academic Team, with eight players joining them on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Players were chosen for the All-Academic team by the LSC sports information directors, who considered each athlete’s accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom. Athletes were required to have a 3.20 grade point average with a minimum of 24 semester hours at their current colleges or universities.

All qualifying student-athletes who were not chosen for the All-Academic Team were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Eastern’s selections for the Honor Roll were sophomore left- handed pitcher Antwhan Yazzie (Farmington, NM/Navajo Prepatory School) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Josh Stephenson (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville HS).

Davis was named to the LSC South All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year. This season, he also earned First Team All-LSC South accolades and was chosen LSC South Co-Pitcher of the Year along with sophomore right-handed pitcher Ben Maynard of Abilene Christian University.

Davis set an ENMU record for victories in 2005, as he went 11-4 on the mound. He achieved a 4.88 earned run average and struck out 69 batters in 94 innings pitched. He owns a 3.31 GPA and is majoring in Business Marketing.

His 11 victories tied for sixth nationally in NCAA Division II, and he tied his own ENMU single season record for appearances with 24. He set school career records with 89 appearances and 20 wins, as he ended his career with a 20-20 overall record. He earned 198 strikeouts during his career to finish second all-time at Eastern behind Gabe DeHoyos (204 strikeouts, 2000-02).

In 2005, Davis’ 4.88 ERA led Eastern’s starters, while his 69 strikeouts ranked second on the team. His 94 innings on the mound tied the ENMU record set by Tim King in 1998.

During his four-year career, Davis recorded a 5.07 ERA. He threw 262 2/3 innings for the Greyhounds, including 31 starts and 10 complete games. He recorded 10 career saves, with four each in 2003 and 2005. He allowed just 69 walks against 1,195 batters faced. He was named LSC South Pitcher of the Week once in 2002 (Mar. 11) and three times in 2005 (Feb. 15, Mar. 1, Apr. 26).

Yazzie and Stephenson participated in practices throughout the season, but did not play in any games in 2005. Yazzie struck out 19 batters in 18 1/3 innings in 2004, while Stephenson threw 12 innings and recorded eight strikeouts a year ago.

The Greyhounds finished 2005 with a 26-27 overall record, including 10-10 in the LSC South (fourth place). ENMU ranked sixth in the overall LSC in pitching with a 6.36 earned run average and tied for second in the LSC with a .958 fielding percentage, as the Greyhounds improved from 19-27-1 (8-13-1 in the LSC South) in 2004.
