PORTALES, N.M. — Rhen Salas, a 5’10” 159-pound forward from Judson High School in Converse, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team. Salas, from San Antonio, Texas, will be a freshman at ENMU during the 2005 season.

Salas was selected First Team All-District and First Team All-City (San Antonio) following the 2005 season. He led his team in scoring and was the second-leading scorer in the district. Salas ranked second on his team and fifth in the district in assists. The Lions Club named Salas Most Valuable Player. On his club team, he was coached by Peter Moore.

“Rhen Salas is a hard-working young man with a great attitude,” ENMU Head Coach Carlos Elizondo said. “He has been a solid striker for his club and high school team. He will definitely add to our offensive depth.”

The Judson High School Rockets, led by Head Coach Brent Draker, competed with schools in Class 5A Region 4 in the San Antonio area. The Rockets finished the 2005 regular season with a 17-7-2 record. In the playoffs, JHS advanced to the Regional Final game, before ending the year with a 22-8-2 record. Salas was instrumental in his team’s success with several multi-goal games.

Eastern New Mexico University fielded its first intercollegiate men’s soccer team this past fall. The Greyhounds are members of the highly-competitive Southwest Soccer Conference that includes eight talented squads, with four challenging at the national level. ENMU finished its first season with a 6-12-2 overall record, including 3-10-1 in the SSC. The Hounds lost six conference games by one goal.
