Ty Touchstone Named First Team Academic All-America in Track and Field
Eastern's First Two-Sport Academic All-America Selection

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University track athlete Ty Touchstone (Sr.,
200m/400m, Lubbock, TX/Monterey HS) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-America Men’s Track/Cross Country Team. The Academic All-America Team was chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Touchstone, who majored in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems at ENMU, recently completed his bachelor’s degree in May, 2005. He held a 4.0 cumulative grade point average through the Fall 2004 semester. He was chosen First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI in track and field this spring to become eligible for the Academic All-America squad.

Touchstone previously was selected First Team Academic All-America in football in 2003 and 2004 as a free safety. He was named Second Team Academic All-America in football in 2002, and received Academic All-District recognition in football in 2002, 2003, and 2004. In 2004, he was named College Division Football Academic All-America of the Year. He is Eastern's first two-sport Academic All-America selection as chosen by CoSIDA.

Last fall, Touchstone was named to the Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Team in football for the third consecutive season. He was chosen for the LSC South All-Academic Team in track and field for the second consecutive year this spring.

In 2005, Touchstone ran the 200-meter and the 400-meter races. He also competed on the 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 relay teams for the Greyhounds. In the 200-meter dash, his top time was 23.44 in a meet at Angelo State University. He finished 23rd in the 200-meter dash at the LSC Championships, as he clocked in at 23.59. He placed 22nd in the 400-meter dash at the LSC meet with his top time of 54.35.

CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for Academic All-America honors were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player was at his current college or university for at least one academic year.

The College Division includes players in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the
NAIA. The Greyhounds compete in NCAA Division II and in the Lone Star Conference.
