Ty Touchstone Selected First Team Academic All-District VI

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University track athlete Ty Touchstone (Sr.,
200m/400m, Lubbock, TX/Monterey HS) has been chosen as a First Team selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI College Division Men’s Track and Cross Country Team. The Academic All-District Team was chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Touchstone, who is majoring in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems, owns a 4.00 cumulative grade point average through the Fall 2004 semester. He previously was selected First Team Academic All-America in football in 2003 and 2004 as a free safety at ENMU. He was named Second Team Academic All-America in football in 2002, and received Academic All-District recognition in football in 2002, 2003, and 2004. In 2004, he was named College Division Football Academic All-America of the Year.

Last fall, Touchstone was named to the Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Team in football for the third consecutive season. He was chosen for the LSC All-Academic Team in track and field for the second consecutive year this spring. As a First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, Touchstone is eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors. The Academic All-America Team will be announced this month.

In 2005, Touchstone ran the 200-meter and the 400-meter races. He also competed on the 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 relay teams for the Greyhounds. In the 200-meter dash, his top time was 23.44 in a meet at Angelo State University. He was 23rd in the 200-meter dash at the LSC Championships, as he clocked in at 23.59. He placed 22nd in the 400-meter dash at the LSC meet with his top time of 54.35.

CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player was at his current college or university for at least one academic year.

The College Division includes players in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA. The Greyhounds compete in NCAA Division II and in the Lone Star Conference.
