Greyhounds Pound Out 20 Hits in 17-7 Victory at OPSU
Gee Opens Scoring with Three-Run Homer in First Inning

GOODWELL, OKLA. — Junior right fielder Justin Gee (Clovis, NM/Clovis HS) hit a three-run homer to open the scoring in the first inning and start an offensive onslaught, as Eastern New Mexico University routed Oklahoma Panhandle State University, 17-7, in a non-conference road game for the Greyhounds on Wednesday, Mar. 30. ENMU, which improved to 13-16 with the win, hit .455 for the game, with 20 hits in 44 at bats. OPSU fell to 5-22 on the season.

Gee completed the game with four runs, three walks and four RBIs, while recording two hits in three at bats. Bryan Moore (Sr., 2B, Wolfforth, TX/Howard College), Josh Kuchta (Sr., SS, Clovis, NM/Clovis HS), Brett Scherer (Sr., RHP/3B, Ingram, TX/Midland College) and Derrick Kennedy (Fr., 3B/OF, San Antonio, TX/G.W. Brackenridge HS) each provided three hits and an RBI. Kennedy also contributed four runs, while Scherer was 2 for 2 on stolen bases. ENMU walked eight times and did not have a strikeout.

The Greyhounds used a predetermined rotation on the mound that featured six pitchers. Scherer (2-3), who threw the first two innings as ENMU built a 9-1 lead, was credited with the win. OPSU also used six pitchers, with starter Bobby Holland (0-1) suffering the loss.

Eastern returns to action on Friday, Apr. 1 and Saturday, Apr. 2 with the opening of Lone Star Conference South Division play against Texas A&M University-Kingsville. ENMU and TAMUK will play one nine-inning game and one seven-inning game at Greyhound Field each day, starting at 3 p.m. MST on Friday and at 12 p.m. MST on Saturday.
