ENMU Baseball Loses Two Games to Northeastern State
Eastern Drops Double-Header, 5-1 and 3-1

Box Score - Game #1, NSU 5, ENMU 1
Box Score - Game #2, NSU 3, ENMU 1

PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds lost a double-header to Northeastern State University, 5-1 and 3-1, in Lone Star Conference crossover play on Friday, Mar. 4 at Greyhound Field. ENMU dropped to 6-8 and NSU improved to 9-8.

Eastern began on a positive note in the first game, as Josh Kuchta (Sr., SS, Clovis, NM/Clovis HS) reached first base on a walk given up by NSU’s Bob Winfrey. Brett Scherer’s (Sr., 3B, Ingram, TX/Midland College) triple to right field knocked Kuchta home. Scherer was waved home attempting to make it an inside the park home run.

The Redmen’s second baseman, Donnie Webb, relayed the throw from right fielder Dustin Pope to catcher Jason Arrowood to get Scherer out at home plate. Scherer was originally called safe at home, but NSU protested the call because Scherer jumped over the catcher, rather than sliding into home plate. The umpires agreed with NSU, reversing their call, limiting Eastern to a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
