Hunnicutt is Named First Team All-LSC South
for Second Consecutive Season
Senior forward ends career with 1,311 Points, 773 Rebounds

PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University senior forward Jamaal Hunnicutt (6’5”, 225 lbs., Amarillo, TX/Randall HS/Hill JC) has been named First Team All-Lone Star Conference South Division for the second year in the row, the LSC Office announced today. Hunnicutt was one of five players chosen for the First Team, with five more selected for the Second Team and six receiving Honorable Mention. Hunnicutt was named Second Team All-LSC South in 2002-03, before earning a spot on the First Team in 2003-04.

Hunnicutt finished his career with 1,311 points over four seasons to rank 11th on the ENMU all-time scoring list, just five points behind Jerry Hyder (1967-71). Hyder played on Eastern’s NAIA National Championship team in 1968-69. Hunnicutt also earned 773 rebounds, 271 assists, 157 steals and 77 blocked shots during his ENMU career. He connected on 53.0% of his career field goals attempts (439 of 828) and made 73.1% of his free throws (433 of 579).

This season, Hunnicutt led the Hounds with 496 points (18.4 avg.) and 225 rebounds (8.3 avg.). He also ranked first on the team in field goal percentage (158 of 292, 54.1%), steals (55, 2.0 avg.) and blocked shots (17, 0.6 avg.). He started every game and scored in double digits in 26 of 27 contests. He recorded a career-high 30 points against West Texas A&M University on Feb. 21.

In the LSC South, he averaged 22.3 points per game, while scoring at least 17 points in every game. He scored 20 or more points eighth times in the LSC South and 11 times overall. He also averaged 9.8 rebounds per game against LSC South opponents.

Hunnicutt was named Second Team All-Region by the NABC in 2003-04, after earning 12.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He helped the Greyhounds qualify for the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time since 1992-93.

He was named LSC South Player of the Week four times during his career, including twice during the 2004-05 season. This year, he ranked third in the LSC in scoring, and was second in steals, seventh in minutes played, eighth in rebounding, tied for ninth in field goal percentage and was 12th in free throw percentage.

Other career highlights include ranking second in the LSC in rebounding in 2003-04 and recording a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against Abilene Christian on Jan. 29, 2004. He recorded 22 double-doubles at ENMU. Off the court, he has qualified for the ENMU Athletic Honor Roll three times: Spring 2003, Fall 2003 and Fall 2004.

Joining Hunnicutt as First Team All-LSC South selections were junior guard Jermart Miller from LSC South champion Texas A&M University-Commerce, senior forward Justin James from Midwestern State University, senior forward Robert Hamilton from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and junior forward Hakim Rasul of Abilene Christian. Miller was chosen LSC South Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Richard Gonzalez of TAMU-Kingsville was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Juan Lanauze of Kingsville was selected Freshman of the Year. Sam Walker of TAMU-Commerce was voted LSC South Coach of the Year.
