Jessica Nocas Named LSC South
Hitter of the Week

Earns six Hits in seven at Bats as Eastern goes 2-0

PORTALES, N.M. — Junior shortstop Jessica Nocas (Riverside, CA/Midland College) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter of the Week for the week ending Mar. 6. Nocas received the award following an impressive showing on offense and defense in Eastern’s double-header sweep against College of the Southwest on Saturday, Mar. 5 at Zia Softball Field.

In the two victories against CSW, Nocas had a batting average of .857, as she went 6 for 7 at the plate. Nocas recorded three RBIs and scored on three occasions, leading the Zias to two run-rule wins. ENMU improving its record to 12-9, with the twelve wins surpassing last season’s victory total, when the Zias ended the year at 11-36.

Nocas was perfect at the plate in the first game, going 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the five-inning, 12-2 run-rule victory. In the second game, Nocas went 3 for 4, while earning two RBIs and scoring a run, as the Zias achieved a 9-1 win in six innings on the run rule. Nocas is the second leading hitter for ENMU with a season batting average of .417 (25 of 60).

On defense, Nocas was solid against CSW, finishing the double-header with two putouts, four assists and no errors. Her defensive opportunities were kept to a minimum by the Zia pitching staff, which gave up only four hits in each of the run-rule wins.

The Zias return to action at Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Wednesday, Mar. 9, before heading to a weekend series at defending NCAA Division II national champion Angelo State University on Friday, Mar. 11 and Saturday, Mar. 12. The ASU series will open Lone Star Conference South Division play for both teams.
