Angelo State Sweeps Double-Header from ENMU
with Pair of One-Run Victories in LSC South Play

Zias Lose 4-3 in Eight Innings and 2-1

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico University softball team stayed close with defending NCAA Division II national champion Angelo State University in both games of a Lone Star Conference South Division double-header on Saturday, Mar. 12, but lost the first game in eight innings, 4-3, and fell in the nightcap, 2-1. Eastern dropped one game below .500 at 13-14 and started LSC South play at 0-4. Angelo State, ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II Poll, improved to 20-6 overall, 4-0 in the LSC South.

In the first game, ASU led 3-0, but the Zias eventually tied the game, 3-3, after scoring two runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh. A sacrifice fly by Christel Neal of ASU in bottom of the eighth scored Dionne Lopez with the winning run.

In the second game, ENMU pitcher Natasha Lindsey (Jr., RHP, Auburn, WA/Tusculum College) gave up just six hits and two walks, while Angelo State pitcher Kari Galm allowed only five hits and three walks. The Rambelles scored once in the first inning and Eastern tallied one run in the third. Jessica Stroud broke scored the winning run for ASU on a two-out single by Brittney Cargill in the bottom of the sixth.
