Jake Holladay Signs National Letter-of-Intent with ENMU Men's Basketball Team

PORTALES, N.M. — Jake Holladay, a 6’6” 190-pound forward from Gilmer High School in Gilmer, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team. Holladay will be a freshman during the 2005-06 season.

Holladay averaged 24.6 points and 11.0 rebounds for Gilmer HS this past season. He helped GHS earn a 14-4 overall record. Holladay was chosen District MVP, as he led Gilmer to the District championship and a berth in the Regional quarterfinals. He was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-State Team and was an All-Region selection. He was chosen First Team All-East Texas by the Longview and Tyler newspapers. He played in two all-star games and earned MVP honors once.

He also received All-State recognition as a defensive end on Gilmer’s football team, which won the Class 3A State Championship. The team’s State Championship run led to a shortened season for the GHS boys’ basketball team.

“Jake is skilled, has good athleticism and can shoot with range,” ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan said. “He has good size and will be a solid swing forward in our system. He has a really good up-side for the future because he is versatile in the many ways he can be used as a player.

“The fact that he had a successful football season is also a good sign when he makes the adjustment to the physicality of the game of basketball at this level,” Scanlan continued. “Jake will be a very positive addition to this team and the future of this program. We are very excited that he signed with us.”

Eastern New Mexico University battled through numerous injuries during 2004-05 and ended the year with a 9-18 record. The Hounds hope to stay healthy next year and return to the form that won them back-to-back Lone Star Conference South Division titles in 2002-03 and 2003-04 with a combined record of 40-17 (.702) those two years. The Greyhounds qualified for the LSC Tournament both years and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2003-04.
