Erica Kelly and Kristen Van Wettering Earn Spots on LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

PORTALES, N.M. — Junior Erica Kelly and sophomore Kristen Van Wettering from the Eastern New Mexico University women’s tennis team have qualified for the 2004-05
Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The Honor Roll included a total of 26 players representing all nine women’s tennis teams in the LSC. Student-athletes qualified for the Honor Roll by earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher in at least 24 hours of work at their current college or university.

The LSC also has announced the All-Academic Team for women’s tennis. Six players who qualified for the Commissioner’s Honor Roll were selected for the All-Academic Team in voting by the LSC’s sports information directors. The All-Academic selections were Michelle Buekes of Midwestern State University, Taylor Ivie from Cameron University, Alicia Cummings from Tarleton State University, and Rachel Taylor, Ashley Hawk-Caperton and Holly Lindloff of Abilene Christian University. Buekes was chosen LSC Women’s Tennis Academic Player of the Year. LSC teams compete in one division in women’s tennis.

LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Kelly has a 3.25 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Biology. She recently completed her third year with the Zias. She was 2-10 at #2 singles and 1-2 at #4 singles during the 2004-05 season. She also achieved a record of 6-12 in doubles. During her career, she has earned an overall record of 11-33 in singles and an overall record of 19-34 in doubles.

Kelly qualified for the ENMU Athletic Honor Roll in Fall 2002, Spring 2003, Fall 2003 and Fall 2004. Final grades for the Spring 2005 semester are not yet available.

Van Wettering joined the Zias this spring. She previously played two seasons with the ENMU volleyball team, including this past fall, when the Zias went 25-9 and earned their first NCAA Division II Tournament berth. In tennis this season, she went 0-5 at #2 singles and 2-10 at #3 singles. She also went 3-9 at #2 doubles and was 1-1 at #3 doubles. Van Wettering and Kelly each played up two flights from their regular singles positions after two players left the team late last fall.

Van Wettering owns a 3.82 GPA and is undecided regarding her major. She qualified for the ENMU Athletic Honor Roll as a volleyball player in Fall 2004.
