Carr Scores 18 Points, Hits Four 3-Pointers, to Lead Greyhounds over Adams State, 69-57
ENMU Outscores Grizzlies 18-9 in Final Eight Minutes

PORTALES, N.M. — Junior guard Travis Carr (Colorado Springs, CO/Otero JC) scored 18 points and connected on four three-pointers to lead Eastern New Mexico University to a 69-57 win over Adams State College in the home opener for ENMU, Saturday, Nov. 26, at Greyhound Arena. The Greyhounds improved to 3-1 on the season, while Adams State fell to 1-1.

Carr sank 5 of 6 field goals, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. He also converted 4 of 4 free throws, as he recorded his first double-digit night since transferring to ENMU from Otero Junior College this season. He also contributed three rebounds and a game-high three steals.

The Greyhounds trailed 18-11 with 9:53 left in the first half, but Eastern outscored the Grizzlies 16-4 to take a 27-22 lead on a layup by Mikal Monette (Jr., F, Albuquerque, NM/Univ. of New Mexico) at the 3:16 mark.

ASC scored the next basket on a dunk by Greg Baker to cut the margin to three points. The Grizzlies also pulled within 32-28 on two free throws by Roman Moniak with 52 seconds left in the half. Even so, the Greyhounds led by six at halftime, 34-28, as Larry Prince (Jr., F, Haynesville, GA/Wallace State-Hanceville CC) scored on a layup with three seconds to go.

Eastern extended the lead to 45-33 with a 11-5 surge at the start of the second half. Carr hit two three-pointers to open the run, which ended with a three-pointer by Monette on his only three-point attempt of the game.

Adams State countered with the next eight points to get within 45-41. Marcus Mortensen and Tony Danielson each nailed a three-pointer during the run. ASC eventually cut the lead to just three points, 51-48, on a trifecta by Moniak with 8:55 remaining.

The Greyhounds scored the next eight points to start an 18-9 run to end the game. Joshua Jackson (Fr., G, Madison, WI/Madison West HS) got the rally underway, as he hit a jumper at the 7:59 mark, for a 53-48 lead.

ENMU, which converted 20 of 26 free throws during the game, hit 14 of 16 at the line the rest of the way. After Jackson’s jumper, the Greyhounds recorded just one more basket from the field, on a layup by Prince with 5:07 left. Prince, who led ENMU with nine rebounds, hauled down five of his seven defensive boards in the final 6:20.

Carr was joined in double figures by junior guard Tristan Largent (Martinsburg, WV/Garrett College) who scored 16 points, and by Monette, who tallied 11 points. Largent hit 9 of 11 free throws and also produced four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Monette grabbed six boards.

Prince added eight points and four assists, while Jackson provided seven point and four rebounds. The Greyhounds connected on a modest 21 of 52 field goals (40.4%), but hit 7 of 15 three-pointers (46.7%) and outscored the Grizzlies by 13 points at the line. ENMU also achieved a 41-30 rebounding margin.

Adams State received a game-high 19 points from Greg Baker, who hit 8 of 16 field goals. He converted just 1 of 6 three-pointers, as ASC finished the game 6 of 18 from three-point range. Moniak tacked on 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies. ASC was successful on 22 of 52 field goals (42.3%), but sank just 7 of 16 free throws.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 1, with a Lone Star Conference crossover game at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Game time in Weatherford, Okla. is set for 7 p.m. MST. The two-game road swing will conclude at Cameron University on Saturday, Dec. 3, in another LSC crossover game, starting at 3 p.m. MST. Crossover games do not count in the LSC divisional standings.
