ENMU Loses in 2nd Overtime, 2-1, Against Northeastern

TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. — Eastern New Mexico University dropped its overtime record to 0-3-1 this season following a 2-1 loss to Northeastern State University in a Southwest Soccer Conference game on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Greyhounds gave up the winning goal at the 101:58 mark of the second overtime, dropping their overall record to 4-12-1 and 2-9 in the SSC. The Redmen improved to 8-8 overall and in the SSC they have a 6-5 record.

Eastern goalie, Leif Craddock (So., Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M Univ.), faced constant pressure from Northeastern who outshot ENMU 23-4 in the game. The win came on the only shot of the game taken by Lucas Correa off a throw in. Adam Douglas was credited with his second assist of the game and Heath Ritzhaup also received credit for an assist.

After the teams played a scoreless first half, the Greyhounds struck first when Rob Humphrey (So., M, Moriarty, NM/Fort Lewis College) controlled a rebound in the box to score his second goal of the season. Less than three minutes later, 50:58, the Redmen tied the score at 1-1 as L. Picelli Filho took a pass from Douglas on the left side of the goal and kicked the ball into the net on the right side.

Nine of Eastern’s 17 games this season have been decided by one goal. ENMU is 2-7 in these games, with the wins coming against St. Mary’s University and Missouric Southern University. Craddock’s record dropped to 3-11-1 with the loss. He is giving up 1.82 goals per game and has recorded a .752 save percentage.

ENMU’s remaining schedule will be on the road, beginning with the University of the Incarnate Word on Friday, Oct. 28. The Greyhounds will stay in San Antonio for a game on Sunday, Oct. 30 against St. Mary’s University. Eastern’s final game of the season will be on Thursday, Nov. 5 in Canyon, TX against West Texas A&M University.
