ENMU Loses to St. Edward’s 3-1

Box Score

PORTALES, N.M. — Playing in its final home game of the season, Eastern New Mexico University was outshot 14-4 in a 3-1 loss to St. Edward’s University in a Southwest Soccer Conference match on Sunday, Oct 16 at the ENMU Soccer Field. The Greyhounds dropped their overall record to 3-11-1 and their SSC record to 1-8-0. The Hilltoppers improved to 4-10-1 and 3-6-0 in the SSC.

ENMU goalie Leif Craddock (So., Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M Univ.) gave up only one goal in the first half, facing an aggressive St. Edward’s offense throughout the game. The Hilltoppers first half goal came at the 39:57 mark as a free kick pass by Noor Jehangir gave Bradley Tolson a shot he put into the net from 10 yards.

Tolson’s second score of the game was the winning goal at 54:52, hitting a pass from Robert Descant from 10 yards into the upper left corner. St. Edward’s made it a 3-0 lead on a penalty kick by Giovanni Barletta. The Greyhounds avoided being shut out as Matt Thomas (Jr., M, Roswell, NM/College of the SW) provided Francisco Roman (So., M, El Paso, TX/Cathedral HS) with a shot from eight yards which he put into the middle of the net. This was Roman’s first goal of the season and the first assist of the year for Thomas.

The Greyhounds will finish the 2005 season on the road, starting with a match in Joplin, MO on Friday, Oct. 21 against Missouri Southern University. Eastern will complete the weekend road trip with a Sunday, Oct. 23rd contest against Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.
