ENMU Gives Up Two Goals in Each Half in a 4-1 Loss to Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Eastern New Mexico University wasn’t able to hold on to a 1-0 early lead in a 4-1 loss to The University of the Incarnate Word in a Southwest Soccer Conference match on Friday, Oct. 28. The Greyhounds dropped their record to 4-13-1 overall and 2-10-0 in the SSC. The Cardinals improved their overall record to an impressive 12-4-2 and their SSC record to 9-1-2.

Rhen Salas (Fr., M, San Antonio, TX/Judson HS) got Eastern off to a 1-0 lead at the 7:10 mark, with Francisco Roman (So., M, El Paso, TX/Cathedral HS) receiving credit for the assist. Salas recorded his third goal of the season and it was Roman’s first assist this year. At the 21:51 mark, Oren Braver tied the score on an assist by Matt Peterson who added a corner kick assist at the 36:15 mark for Monday Atigo’s winning goal.

Just over five minutes into the second half (50:37), the Cardinals’ Pedro Zamarripa put the ball into the net on an assist by Yaniv Braver. Zamarripa added an assist to his statistics for the Cardinals’ final goal which was credited to Fernando Jorge.

Eastern was outshot 19-6 and UIW managed a 10-2 shots on goal advantage. Leif Craddock (So., GK, Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M Univ.) recorded the loss as he faced an aggressive Incarnate Word offense who became over-zealous at times with a 4-0 edge in offsides infractions. Craddock has faced 263 shots in 15 starts (17 games) this season, an average of 17.6 shots per game. Salas’ goal was his only shot of the game and Eastern’s only other shot on goal was recorded by Martin Gallegos (Jr., M, Roswell, NM/Roswell HS) who led the team with two shots.

The Greyhounds will have a short trip to another part of San Antonio for their next match, schedule for Sunday, Oct. 30 against St. Mary’s University. ENMU will wrap-up their 2005 season on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Canyon, TX against West Texas A&M University.
