Eastern Cannot Rally From 0-2 Deficit in a 1-3 Loss to Midwestern

DENTON, TEXAS — After scoring only 25 points combined in the first two games, Eastern New Mexico University won the third game before losing the match 1-3 against Midwestern State University at the 2nd Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Zias lost the match 13-30, 12-30, 30-24 and 16-30 to drop their record to 6-14 overall. The Lady Indians improved their overall record to 19-8 this season.

Eastern errors was the main culprit in the loss and a .036 hitting percentage was the outcome. The Zias accounted for 28 attack errors, 12 service reception errors, five blocking errors and six ball handling errors in the match. Four Lady Indians recorded double-digits in kills, led by 20 by Kate Pence as she recorded a .567 hitting percentage. Krissa Johnson’s 13 kills came at a .435 hitting percentage and Allison Schreiber provided 57 assists.

Lindsay Schiely (Sr., MB, Portland, OR/Clackamas CC) led the Zias with nine kills, one ahead of Grace George’s (Jr., MB, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuku HS) eight kills. Kathryn McCannell (Jr., S, Brandon, MAN, Canada/Bemidji State Univ.) handed out 17 assists and Kara Killian (Fr., S, Amarillo, TX/Randall HS) provided 11 assists in the match.

ENMU will play its final match of the tournament at noon on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Zias return to Greyhound Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 18 for a non conference match against Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
